santa rosa bible church. his life was kron called on stage from infancy to basketball to a go-cart racer. they had a loving and supportive relationship. his short life touched hundreds of people. they gathered at the church to honor and celebrate his life. his mother deanna johnson was deeply touched. >> i'm overwhelmed by the number of people that are here. he would be overwhelmed i think he would say, wow, cool. >> he was killed march 16th when a sprinted car driven by his cousin chase johnson malfunctioned. the car geared off the track killing mar kiss and a supporter. his mother mentioned taking him to school each day. >> it's going to be really hard taking him to school and picking him up every day. every day i pass middle rincon road and have tears in my eyes. >> they talked about his behavior and young female friend broke down in tears for a song dedicated to marcus. >> his family said he would like to help students that are less fortunate. some of the money will go to help to pay for students. if you are interested in donating go to abc7news.com and click on "see it on tv".

starting to develop. our highest rainfall total has been santa rosa at quarter of an inch and more than .1" in union city and oakland and just shy of that at concord. you can see the radar showing that, now, the cell that went over the golden gate bridge is over angel island and alcatraz. we have good radar runs headed to sonoma and headed if this direction the rain has moved away from mountain view and from the sunol grade you will have a better chance of light rain. it is moving from southwest to northeast for the bet radar return upextreme of the north bay. it looks like you will have a better chance of organized wet weather through morning hour but all of us have a chance of periods of rain through the morning commute with showers developing as we head to noon and they will be scattered in the afternoon hours and by 7:00 the dry public starts to move in with temperatures struggling in the 50's and 60's and we will be warmer tomorrow and breezy and warmer with a lot sunshine on friday and saturday. sue? >> in surprise with all the rain in the north bay we have multiple incidents

-year-old boy who lost his life at a race track. it took place at his middle school in santa rosa. he was in the pit at marysville race way on saturday when his cousin 17-year-old chase johnson lost control. his car slammed into a pit killing the 14-year-old and 68-year-old from grass valley. more on the victims and the crash. >> reporter: the start of the civil war sprint car series took a tragic turn at race way park saturday night. in a practice run, chase johnson seen here lost control. he watched the car leave the track. >> he must have been going 90 and there is not much you can do when the car is going that fast. >> he hit his cousin mar marcus johnson and also killed was 68-year-old from grass valley. they were at the penngrove home was the sign saying privacy to deal with the horrible tragedy. friends left flowers at muffler shop that the father owns here in santa rosa. 11-year-old michael is also an award sprint car driver. as a father his death has hit him hard. >> he was sweet kid, i know that his dad loved him very much. >> he was always nice and nice to talk to. >> micha

going on with the rain season, we put a small pinprick dent in it but we are still 6" in santa rosa and 5.5" in san francisco and san bruno and oakland and 3.5" in san jose and livermore and you can see we need more rain. we have a transition that will be breezy at times with a few clouds but a bright are day. we start off in the 40's this morning and hanging out mainly in the mid to upper 50's and in the low-to-mid 60's at 4:00, and back near the upper 50's by 7:00. looking ahead, it will be breezy tomorrow with temperatures above average and we will have high clouds and sunshine for saturday and for sunday. temperatures are running above average at the coast. we will be in mid-to-upper 50's. >> it is thursday. we have clear conditions on the golden gate bridge, two lanes for the southbound drive right now but that will be reconfigured to road lanes. there is road work up the waldo before the tunnel and then it is wide open. the two right lanes are blocked for road work for the time being. on the peninsula we also have road work exiting, southbound, 101 embarcardero road to shore lean

so much for that update. the 14-year-old santa rosa boy killed at the marysville raceway a week ago is being remembered as the track re-opens tonight. a private funeral for marcus johnson was held today. a public memorial is tomorrow. he was killed along with man when a car driven by marcus' 17-year-old cousin flew off the track. there was a mechanical failure and track officials say the track is safe. >> viewers sent us pictures of the aftermath of a transformer blowing up. it caused bushes to catch on fire. thousands of residents were without power. no injuries were reported. pg&e has not been told why the the transformer blew. jake is a tattoo artist. >> two months ago the pepper valley's was destroyed in this fire. at the bottom of the hour, a benefit concert will be held to collect funds to rebuild it. several bands and standup comics will perform. >>> the fbi has joined the search for a bay area bank robber, wanted for two bank robberies this month, one at the chase tbharchg walnut creek and the other at the wells fargo. the thief has a trademark long sleeved collared shirt, d

at a ratesway over the weekend. constitutes at the middle school in santa rosa gathered last night to remember marcus johnson^. on saturday three was one of two in pit area at the raceway park killed by an out-of-control sprint car that was actually driven by his own cousin, 17-year-old chase johnson, a senior at petaluma high school. mourners noted the double tragedy for the johnson family. >> in first grade he would bring his race cars to school for events and it was fun to see. >> i cannot think of a worse tragedy. he and his cousin were as close as you could be. they raced the same raceway. >> the cause of the tragic crash is under investigation. some family members say the steering wheel came off. >> happening now, bart is taking a second look at the bicycle policy this week allowing bicycles on the trains at all times going this morning. the pilot program comes with a few restrictions. the first car of each train is off limits to bicycles. dug rush hour, no bicycles are allowed in the first three cars of the train. this test program runs this week only and ends on friday. abc7 n

santa rosa this afternoon to remember a teenage boy who was hit and killed at a racetrack last weekend. the family of 14-year-old marcus johnson held a private funeral yesterday and today was a chance for the community to participate as well. johnson was killed when his 17-year-old cousin spun out of control during a pre-race warm-up last weekend. a 68-year-old man was also killed. he owned another race car at that track. today johnson's family, friends, teachers, and coaches shared their memories as they grieved a young life lost too soon. >> i know several of the players, one of them i liked immediately was marcus. he stood out because of his friendly demeanor and hard work ethic. >> johnson was an eighth grader at rincon valley middle school in santa rosa. his family says his dream of all dreams was to drive a ferrari formula one race car on tracks around the world. >>> this evening, the chp is trying to figure out what a man was doing on an open freeway when he was hit by a car and killed. the chp says it happened about 12:30 this afternoon on eastbound 580 near dutton aven
